can someone ID this Lutjanus? I believe this is a Lutjanus argentimaculatus, we caught this in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates by an oil rig. If so can it be converted to freshwater? Right now its recovering in a quarantine tank with a salinity of 16, it came from the waters of salinity 35. It has the blue line under the eye which is typical of argentimaculatus, if that helps. Thanks

That's the adult color for Lutjanus argentimaculatus. Nice catch.

I've raised a few and have had to move all of them to marine conditions. In too little salt, they constantly broke out in fungal and bacterial infections, especially in the eyes and mouth. IMO, adults wouldn't last too long if converted to FW.

I was thinking of changing the water with 10% fw once every week until the salinity hits 0.

It's worth a try, but if you see any infections raise the salinity again like Odball said.

We found him and a couple more in an abandoned Arabian fish trap called a "Gargoor" while diving , some have been there for weeks. The one you see in the picture was a freshly trapped. They were in horrible condition only one barely made it. He recovering from shock now and is feeding well on shrimp, we also added a cleaner wrasse to clean it up.
