Hi guys,

I just bought another rhom from lfs, this guy is about 5-6" for $75 cdn, is it a good deal?
The LFS labelled this guy Black piranha wild caught from peru, what do you guys think?
Look at the yellowish belly? Is it possible this is the diamond variety?

looks like a rhombeus to me which = black piranha, all the black prianhas are wild caught so no worries there.
doesn't look diamond based on the pictures. it's very common for juvi to have some color on the gill/throat area so that doesn't really mean anything.

Ahh, I was hoping to have a diamond ones, The other smaller one I have is tooo small to id.. anyone want to chime in?

You won't be able to tell for a couple more inches and by diamond viarant it pretty Mich goes by the naked eye so if it looks like a blue diamond call it a blue if it looks like a gold diamond call it a gold ...... At this size I'm gonna guess gold diamond .

That's been my experience with LFS; they will often slap on whatever name makes them the most money. I've driven around looking, often over an hour away, just to find out that it's just the lighting that makes it look a certain way - and they know it. Sometimes you just have to go with your gut and make the purchase since you may not get another chance. As long as you like your new friend who cares what is is, right?

I have seen rhoms with a gazillion different names on them. Being such a widespread species there are countless variations and strains with a slightly different appearance. If it would make you feel better, call it a gold Diamond rhom. Still a nice fish.

updated before i pick this guy up from LFS.
for some reason I cannot upload video of this guy chasing my finger

sounds like a keeper, nice yellow on the gill/throat area, eyes are red and it has the potential of being a finger chase.
for video you have to upload to youtube or other sharing site then post a link here, cannot just upload directly.
