saying "Florida/spotted" doesn't necessarily mean we think it is a cross, it refers to the issue that these two species (primarily in the pet trade) are virtually impossible to distinguish from one another, so we generally use the term "Florida/spotted" to indicate it could be either one (although there could be the possibility of a hybrid).--

if the tail is round then chances are that its a spotted gar but if the tail is forked its a south american gar aka marble gar thats actually a pike species.
