ID Please

Need some help on the ID of this guy, sorry for the poor pictures, this little booger would not sit still.

almost reminds me of a red shoulder in a couple of the pics. How big is this fish? Looks small compared to the powerhead. It might need a little more time before it truly colors up.

He still is pretty small, around 2 inches. A friend brought him over and didnt know what he was. I threw him in one of my growout tanks because I know he would get demolished in my 2 other Malawi tanks.
