i think he may be a pim. blochii, how big do they get.

Your right. That is no pictus. it is P. blochii. They grow around 10-12"

I think you need to get a part or scissors and cut the rest off. It could cause infections and a deep cut. Be very carefull thou to not damage the fin.

yeah i didnt even notice that. but favcatfish is right. Pull him out with a fine net designed for catfish or a strainer and then remove the netting. Leaving the netting on there could cause infections such as a fungus.

I hate when they use the wrong nets for catfish. Cant tell you how many times i've offered to do it myself so they dont kill the fish.

Im starting to think i need therapy neways nice pickup

so i caught him and cut the net off his fins and he was surprisingly well behaved. once i had him in my hand he just stayed still and let me cut the net off. also do you think $28 was an okay price for a fish of his size? and what about tankmates, hes in the 180 with the fish in my signature, are they okay tankmates?

for me $28 is a little steep for that fish. I think $20 would be more reasonable. As for companions everything in your 180 will be safe. And should be big enough for you to add another blochii, just be careful they like to quarrel with eachother, so i would avoid pictus cats as they are similar in shape and coloration. Just avoid anything that will fit in their mouths, i had a ten incher that would eat rosies (as an occasional treat; dont jump on me peeps; i try and avoid live food like that). That should do it.
