Is a Hap a group of fish that used to be Haplachromis, sorta like the Acaras of the new world.
What is the definition of a Hap?

hap is haplachromis

Yes, but its not a Haplachromis but its a Hap.
Im just wondering if "Hap" is a general group of cichlids that at one time or another were Haplachromis.

Thanks for your help and kind comments.

To answer your question, yes.
Like many Amphilophus and other assigned central americans are considered cichlasomines and Oreochromis are still called tilapia even though they are no longer in the genus Tilapia, many malawi haplochromines are stilled referred to as such as they were once placed in the genus.
It will happen to many other Genera. Neolamprologines will be broken up and assigned new names and they will still be considered neolamprologines.

As Mike already said, hap is just a short name for haplachromis.

Yes, I understand.
Mike said that the genus was Sciaenochromis, he also said that it was a Hap, so a Hap must be a "common" name for cichlids closely related to Haplachromis or cichlids that were at some point of time describes as Haplachromis?
