Hey,

So I was checking out my LR today and I noticed something new on it... (nothing new has been added). I have no idea what it is but on the tip of each arm/tentacle structure there is dots (look like an off whitish to me..) so first thing I thought of when I saw it was.."looks like it stings..." I don't have good pictures of it =[ I am not equipped with a macro lense and my normal digi cam macro mode wont pick it up. The pics I have are the best I can do atm. I figured it would be good to know what it is. Its the thing growing on the left side on the middle of the LR (the bulge looking piece of the LR)

They say peppermint shrimp eat it, but in my experience you have to starve them to get them to eat it. Peppermint shrimp have also been know to eat corals from time to time, so you have to watch out for that.

On the flipside copperband butterflies will eat aptasia, but will nip at corals also. I have found if you keep them well fed, they will be less likely to nip corals and will still graze and eat aptasia.

I agree it is most likely apista, if you dont want to/cant use chemicals then use Berghia nudibranchs, their only diet is apista. But when you run out of apista your nudibranch will die, so if possible find someone else who needs them so you can share them so they dont die needlessly.

Nudibranches dying will probably wipe out the rest of your tank, so I'd say dont go that route.

Try peppermint shrimps, ive had 100% success with them, and have never had them nip at my corals (have mushrooms if that matters). Be careful to get peppermints and not camel shrimp (patterning is similar, but the second has a lump on their back) as they can be pretty nasty buggers.

Hope this helps.

it does and I appreciate the advice. I had someone who tried pepermint shrimp and they nipped at the coral. I have a kenya tree and zooanthid. I am not the biggest fan of putting chemicals in my tank but the aptasia killer seems like it would fine so long as i dont dump it in my tank and only give it to the aptasia. I only have one right now... I havent seen anymore I looked around so I def. dont want to put anything that only eats aptasia in my tank b/c it will die of starvation pretty quick.

you can also just shoot boiled water at it via a pipette or syringe, lemon juice or get some Aiptasia-X stuff works wonders!
