Hey Guys,
Today I got 2 fish from a mate yesterday, they were with an oscar in a 4 Foot tank and the oscar was beginning to get a bit aggresive with them.
I have taken the best photo's I can get of them. They are about 4 inches.
I would like an ID as I would like to try and get more of them.

Cheers Craig.

Took copies of the photo's to my LFS.
The guy their reckons that they are Geophagus Surinamensis.
What do you guys reckon about that?

Cheers Craig.

It's not a Geophagus surinamensis, you could get that answer from any number of inexperienced keepers. Lateral spot is a bit large for an altifrons variant, even at that size in my experience.

Has quite a sizeable dorsal fin from those photographs, but I'm not sure whether what looks to be a pre-opercular mark is actually one, but I'm with peathenster on this one, looks like a sub-adult/juvenile G. winemilleri. Eye colouration, fin patterning, barring and lateral spot size and position all fit.
