Hi everybody! First thread here! Glad to be part of mfk. Just picked up a 75 gallon last weekend off CL and today I picked up a Flowerhorn for $25. I imagine for the price he is a lower quality one and I noticed his eyes aren't red. Just wondering what you guys thought of him and if you could possibly tell me what type of Flowerhorn he is? Really? I thought all the high quality ones had red eyes, but then again I will admit I do not know much about flowerhorns other than they are extremely aggressive, but I love the way they look and really wanted one.

Eyes essentially have nothing to do with quality, it has to do with strain. Yours looks Kamfa but its low quality. If you like it thats all that matters. You can find high quality FH for around that price, you just need to know where to look.

Thank you. Yes, I figured it was lower quality b/c of the price, but I am happy with him. Didn't wanna pay the big bucks for one online until I'm a little more advanced an experienced with cichlids in general. I think he's good looking and I can't wait until he starts growing more and filling out with color. Nice to know you can get a goo one at that price too though 😊

Well being in NY you could get some cheap quality ones. I would look for the mom and pop Asian fish stores.

I live closer to Rochester not NYC, but I've heard there are a lot of good fish shops in there and New Jersey. We definitely have some good ones out by me too, just haven't seen many flowerhorns and the one I did see was one with really long fins and a very small body.
