What you have there is Crenicichla sp. Venezuela. Commonly sold at a black line or black striped pike cichlid.

I have one myself. He's a meanie!

thanks, looked up sp venezuela and thats definetly what it is. the website i looked on says it can get up to 20"! is this true?

I can't say for sure how big they get. I read the same thing. Mine is not much bigger than yours though. I guess we'll both find out.:D

FYI: my Venezuela is a much more picky eater than my johanna. He refuses to eat pellets. :irked:

Well, your kinda screwed in that aspect, as your ven. isn't gonna stop growin at a foot...I've seen them at 18" a few times, and one at 20" once...so they will get up there. They loose their attractive juv. coloration as they age though...;) Congrats on the pike up, gonna be a lotta fun and cursing involved! haha

are there any pike ciclids that get smaller cause they look pretty cool!

well at least im gettin an 180g so he wont outgrow my tank, can't imagine a 20" pike cichlid tho, they gotta look awesome.
