This guy was given to me for free by the local fish store and was labeled as mystery fish LOL. I personally do not know what he is but hey who would turn down a free fish! Can someone please help me ID him/her.
Would it be appropriate to post a picture of a different fish here? I have a fish that I would like to know for sure the id of. I just figured it would be better here than starting a new thread for the same thing.

Well I've only been keeping cichlids for about a year now, so I am pretty much a newb. The buddy I got this from said it was sold to him as a Red Texas, but I am having doubts. I figure it is a Texas, but it has never shown any color at all and just always has those stripes.
first, you almost definitely have some type of sunfish even more specifically a lep (Lepomis genus) if I were to guess looks like a young green but to young for me to tell from those photos.
second, while you may not know this sunfish and cichlids are different families but most with similar behavior.
third, depending in the species it may not be fine in hot temps with your cichlids but like I said if it is a lep which I believe it is your temp for it should be 64-76 ideally with 78 as MAX for optimal health.
While I own no natives I planned on doing a tank that unfortunately I never wound up doing for about a year and have done and still do ex tenuous research on keeping natives so if you need ANY more help with it just let me know man I'll be glad to help
