I got this little guy from a buddy of mine and he told me it was a Parrachana Obscura but something just isn't right about it. Anyone think it could be one of the other african snakeheads?

I knew I wasnt crazy. But damn I don't know anything about this species. Anyone have any details, tips, or experience they could share?

+1 , C Lucius and a nice one !

They do well solo or in a group. If this fish was bought at King Eds, it should be tropical (I believe that they inhabit subtropical regions as well). Diet should include fish, insects and crustaceans. They are a pretty easy fish to care for. It looks like you have a good setup for it.
This is one of the few Channa that I've been able to keep with other fish, but there are no guarantees.
Good luck.

Thanks for the help guys. I look forward to getting this guy nice and fat. I think I'll try and keep him in my predator community and see what happens.

I haven't kept C. Lucius yet but I've heard from many experienced keepers( bottles included) that they are quite peaceful comparable to other common community monsters. Of course with preds their is always a risk But from what I've heard as long as you don't have a breeding pair they should do just fine with equal sized fish.

What else is in your pred community?

I have 7 assorted upper jaw polys, 2 indo dats, 2 leopard ctenopoma, and an assortment of sa cichlids that I'm hosting temporarily while my buddy sets up a new tank. So far the snakehead leaves everyone alone. Infact he likes to hangout with the polys.

that actually sounds like an ideal mix , if they were to stay the SA cichlids might be a risk when older depending on what species they are just because many cichlids tend to be trouble makers who pick fights even if they'll Loose lol

But I could see a dat/ploy/cteno mix working very well!!

My old group was kept with Bichirs and a Dat.
As DC mentioned, keep an eye on the Cichlids.
