It looks to be a crenicichla sveni. They are from Columbia and are tolerant of a wide range of water conditions and are considered very hardy. They are rough on conspecifics and can be tough to acclimate to community settings unless the tank is at least 75 gallons or larger. They are a medium pike averaging 10 inches give or take for the males and slightly smaller for females. Best way to pair them off is to get a group and raise them together. Unlike LUGRIBUS pikes, they do not tolerate conspecifics when juveniles so plenty of hiding places is key. Females will gain a round belly with a pinkish red flush when sexually mature.

A great starter pike?

+plus 1 great advice and yes definitely sveni. I've found them to be decent communty fish just rough on other pikes. Easy to get off live food as well.
