It's on craigslist for relatively cheap. Looking for an ID to do some research, I may buy it.
 
It looks like Crenicichla sp. Venezuela, or a venny, to me. They have spots when young and tend to grow out of that into a mostly purplish-grey adult fish.

I would like to add ENORMOUS to that description. Might not be the most colorful, but an 18" adult is quite an imperative sight
 
Yes crenicichla sp venezuela. Most lugubris pikes will get to around 15-17 ish inches or even larger... I've seen pictures of Cobras (tapajos II) at 17 inches up to a tape (one member had his group die and one of the males was a monster) but never seen a Venezuelan that big up to a tape.... I really think someone needs to make that a goal... Never seen a venezuela over 15 inches eyeballed... Supposedly gets to 20+ inches but there's not really proof...
