I bought this little guy as a parachanna obscura, it's only 4 inches so still a young one, but I've just been advised that its a Lucius, they do look very similar so I'm after some extra opinions.065.JPG 058.JPG

Hello

It really looks like a lucius, the obscura dont have this blue shine on the fins. Young lucius have 3 long stripes from their head to the tail, does your Snakehead have that?
Young Obscuras have dark spotts on their bodey...

Otherwise, why should a Fishstore (or wherever your fish comes from) sell a asian Snakehead as an african Parachanna obscura? Lucius Snakeheads are most of the time wildcauht and more expensive. Parachanna onscuras are cheap fish because they are breed as Food. It is a little bit controverse, know what i mean?

here's a couple more pictures, now it's settled in a bit more. from all the pictures I've seen online it does look more like a lucius. Basically I ordered a parachanna africana and a couple of hours later I got a phone call saying it was already sold and they hadn't updated the site yet, so then they said the had a parachanna obscura they could send me instead and send me a partial refund. so I agreed and this is the little guy that turned up.061.JPG 026.JPG

Hello

I would say its definitely a channa lucius, parachanna obscura has 2 long "bartels" (dont know how it is exactly called in english), on the photos and the video it dont looks like your snakehead has "bartels"...

like the extended nostrils on my bichir? if so, no the snakehead doesn't have them. well thank you very much for the confirmation.
