i recently caught this at a local pond and when i got it it had a red tail but it kinda faded in the tank. i caught green sunfish there and they are darker than this dude and have a bigger mouth and no red tail. bluegills are taller with smaller mouths, and a super distinct unique coloration. if figuring its a hybrid? not totally sure...im positive its not a bluegill or green sunfishIMG_20200428_115058.jpgIMG_20200428_115110.jpgIMG_20200428_115108.jpg

Looks like a blue gill, it's colors will be best on a dark substrate... not sure where you live but this time of year I'd guess female...

the bluegills do not look like that up here in wisco, they are bland, this guy was caught with a bunch of bluegills and green sunnies but im positive he is neither

Yes it is a hybrid. It's a bluegill mixed with a green sunfish. An extremely common hybrid to find in the wild almost anywhere in the US. They are often even made on purpose as to make a faster growing gamefish. Basically it combines the size, shape and color of the bluegill with the large mouth of the green sunfish to make a fish that can grow faster as it is no longer limited on the amount of prey items it can consume with it's larger mouth size.

As for care it's pretty much the same as a bluegill or green sunfish.
