That is a nice royal Pleco!! Put plenty of soft and hard driftwood in the tank feed it vegetables from time to time like zucinni and cucumber. Clean water is a bonus too. They do not need a meaty diet at all.

It's a Panaque nigrolineatus (L190). They are slow growers at about 2.5cm/1" per year and are one of the few plecos considered as 'wood eaters'. You should provide several pieces of bog wood for him to rasp on, and also feed a mix of vegetables (sweet potato, carrot, zucchini etc) and algae based wafers/pellets. The are a messy fish and produce a lot of waste (for their size) so your filtration needs to be adequate. They're fairly easy for water parameters, it should be clean and low in nitrates (like all fish really). A pH between 6-8 should be ok, temp 26-30c, well oxygenated and they appreciate a current.

Is it a platinum? Those are so rare so im not sure if it is what you have. How much did you pay?

Agreed its a royal plec and will get to 20". Hope you have a big tank! I believe it to be referred to as a "Bright-eye Royal". The one I have is referred to as a dull-eyed Royal.
