is this a normal trop? cause it doesn't look normal to me...a hybrid? or just a wicked cool variation?

i think it's just a trop with a washed out pattern on it's body and a "more normal" pattern on its head.

pretty yellowish for a trop...i dunno, odds are, it's just a norm...but still...:D

it does look very odd, but i still think it is probably just a trop.
 
its a tropical. they are highly variable, but i can't tell you (cause i don't know :D) is whether its individual variation in this case, or regional variation. i do know i've seen pics of some that are far nicer (IMO of course) than anything i've seen posted on US-based forums, e.g. the one in this thread has got some cool color! i wish i could get my hands on those lol
 
it's a regular tropical gar. as ricky said, they are highly variable, quite possible the most varied in pattern of all the species. we see a lot that look like this coming out of SE Asia (or at least posted on their forums/sites). it's like a regional variation in central america causing the difference in pattern (or at least some of the difference)--
