Found this fella at LFS yesterday..shop owner also dont knw abt d ID..he just named it " silver snakehead " as the colour of the scales are silverish n shinny..
Head structure looks like a micro but body of a straita..characteristic..more towards micro..
No sign of banding or patterns found at the body..

Any info about this fella ?

Thanks

not a micro..

Is there any color at all on the fins ? an does it hold the silver if given a darker tank? I've seen channa melasoma look very white colored when in a white holding tank but it would darken up in a proper home , and also they tend to have some patterning on the fins (which also can wash out if kept in a white tank.

Other wise it's a "platinum" color morph akes it hard to ID the exact species patterns help narrow things down in the world of channa , but my guess would be Channa striata if it's a platinum.

hope that helps

dc : i bought this fella from the LFS already and put it inside a 4' X 2' filter tank decorated with driftwood and as at today, there's no sign of colour change on it's body. d silverish n shinny scales still remain as it is..however due to its aggressiveness it already killed one of my emperor and cat fish which shared d same tank with it. sigh... for your info. there's no other colour or patterning on it's fin or tail.. anyway thanks for your info

oleoleole: tq for d info. i will search further..

Ya not advisable to mix channa species, solo tank or species only is normally best. There are a few exceptions, and sometimes when young they'll tolerate other species if they are too big to be eaten, but not normally other species of snakehead, and even when there is a mix that "works" it typically only works until the snakehead matures.

I've seen pictures of channa sp. platinum' out of india, i dont think it's the same species that you have here, the indian ones have a more of square head. I've seen "channa sp . platinum" morph in several species but it's very difficult to id them because they last pattern, the scull /body/fin shape can normally narrow it down somewhat but only ray and scale counts could get you a true species id.

For sure striata

Bred for food purposes, and morphs (platinum, leucist, albino) are selcted and sold for extremely too much money

This one also looks like the one I got today, hailed as a recently discovered sp from China, which they call White Pearl Lemon.

Mine is also very metallic looking.mi am inclined towards Striata complex, although Glaser in Germany, the importer, claimsthey are Argus complex ( hard to believe with such a pointy head )

Hi guys,

The "streamlined" head shape urges me to think it's a platinum striata. Seen a lot of specimen here in India. Good luck with this.

Cheers,

Karthik
