Just rescued this big girl out of a bath tub.

Can you ID this terrapin?

PS- Her shell is of concern.

It's a diamondback terrapin. Their markings are very variable due to the huge number of populations along the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts. Why was this lil beauty in a bathtub?

I know it's a DBT.. I am looking for sub species.

I currently own a Mississippi DBT male.

Supposedly her tank broke.. but she's in really bad shape.

Ill take her :D
Im 45 min south of ya

She will have a great home :D

Here are more pics, and I've got my 300 gallon stock tank planning going right now.

I'm thinking she's a Florida DBT.

Should be good for 2 terrapins! :D

She looks like a Malaclemys terrapin mittoralis aka Texas DBT.

You didn't bother quarantining her? You're braver than I am.

It was kinda an urgent thing.. the person was keeping her in a bath tub, and I wanted to get her out of that.

How exactly do you QT a turtle?

I'm new to turtles.. these are my first 2.

I've been reading a lot about them, and right now I am looking for a calcium supplement for her, as her shell looks really brittle.

When quarantining reptiles you just basically keep them separate from others for observation for at least 30 days. During this time it also gives them a chance to pass any possible parasites that they may harbor. This is especially important with imports. If she was kept by herself the danges should be minor.

She looks in pretty good shape to me minus the pitting on her shell. I'd just make sure she's eating a quality turtle pellet and maybe also feed her some thawed shrimp with the shells on them for some extra calcium. Try some nightcrawlers as well.

She was being fed zoo med brand pellets, but the ingredients is fillers and vegetation. I know terrapins are carnivores.

The small guy in the pic (Luigi) eats a variety of things.. he gets reptomin krill treat pellets, thawed krill, thawed silversides, and he has quite a taste for spinach.

She will not touch a silverside, and she won't eat krill. I'm going to hold off on feeding for a few days, and hopefully that will make the food transition better.

I have a 110 gallon stock tank I picked up that I am going to be using as their indoor enclosure while I work on the 300 gallon design.

She was kept with RES, and a snapper, but from what the owner told me she's been in the tub for about 2 months, and NO uvb light. :(

The other little guy has been kept alone all his life.
