ID? Pumpkin seed sunfish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It appears to be mostly Pumpkinseed, whether it is pure or not is difficult to determine since it appears unsettled (stressed from its new environment) and washed out from the light colored substrate. If it colors up some more, it will be easier to identify what its ancestry consists of. Right now Bluegill or Green seem to be possible contributors, but could be something else depending on where you live.

A hybrid green for sure!

Alright thanks guys, I live in Ohio and someone brought it into my LFS and since they can't deal in native fish they gave it to me. He has an amazing appetite and has grown probably about an inch in the first week I've had him. I try not to overfeed him but every time I put in any food for my Oscar (rosies, shrimp, bloodworms) he goes crazy and steals alot haha. Thanks for the info and looking at the pictures on google I would agree on green/pumpkinseed sunfish.

He is rapidly growing and gaining more color. He has beautiful blue iridescent stripes that show up more and more every day. He seems to be growing at a rather fast pace....what should I be expecting his full size to be? He is in a 30 g long at the moment but I am currently setting up a 75 for him an oscar, clown knife and florida gar.

First thing, it is expected for a hybrid sunfish have a fast growth rates so you might expecting him/her to be around 10"
