Can any cichlid enthusiast help me ID these cichlids? I am assuming they are some sub species of convict's (Amatitlania nigrofasciata). However my taxonomy is still a work in progress. I am also working off the theory that the smaller ones are juveniles and the larger ones adults (logical but no means certain)

Do convicts fade with age?
Are domestic convicts bread for more distinct markings?
Are these even the same species of fish? (the smaller ones had some flashes of color, the larger ones pretty plain)

Any general information would greatly alleviate my curiosity. Thanks

First three are convicts, last four are an Amphilophus species. Probably Amphilophus citrinellus if you're in Costa Rica.

Thanks guy, mystery solved. I was fairly sure the little ones had to be convict's, but the larger ones didn't look quite like any convicts I'd seen before. However, catching them all together had led me to the false conclusion that the smaller ones were offspring. That's why I came to the pro's (you guys). If I catch anything else of interest, I will be back to pick your brains.

Thanks.

Yup I agree with the other two. Where in Costa Rica were these caught?

These were caught in La Paz Park (Parque La Paz) in San Jose. Along with these there are also jaguar cichlids and something else that I need to post a pic of and have identified.

A lot of fish in a couple of ponds that are only a few acres and appear to be fed only by run off.
