See pics below, any thoughts on a ID for this guy? Got him when I traded in an albino oscar a few months back, LFS guy didn't know whether mono, ocell, etc. He is now around 4", maybe just under that.

Also, I'm looking to introduce him into my 125 which currently houses a 10"-12" florida gar (who is relatively timid for all intents and purposes). Yes, I know that this is not big enough for either fish long term. That will be resolved in time but I'm hoping that they will be compatible for long term (have seen several instances of these species doing well in a community setting on this forum). Right now, the gar is the only fish in the 125.

The gar definitely would have to do some work to eat this thing as is (his mouth is smaller than the bass), but I guess he could kill it if he wanted too. How big should this bass be before I tried this introduction?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I just noticed a juvenile cichla ID sticky, can't believe I had not noticed that prior since I spend entirely too much time on here.

I'm guessing ocell based on that thread... ?

I whould guess Cichla kelberi. congrats pretty clean one!

Thanks... Kelberi, think so? I didn't want to get my hopes up... I assumed it would be some ocell or mono/ocell hybrid because it was just labeled "Peacock bass" at the LFS. But it wasn't a big chain store, so that's why I'm hoping the experts here can help me out and give me some good news. Either way I'm happy to get back into a p. bass and look forward to getting him nice and big.

Anybody else have an opinion?

Nobody else has any idea? I have a hard time believing that...

I'll be waiting a little while longer to move the bass in with the gar. I think it would be ok but I'm just going I let the bass put on a little more girth to be safe. Maybe ill introduce them to new tank together in a month or two.
