Okay, my wife picked up a spiny eel a few days back when she had to trade in her 8" Comet for something smaller. This was marked as a Tire Track eel, but none of the Tire Track eel pics I have seen display the four prominent eyespots on the tail like Nessie, here, has.

Can someone confirm for me if this is a tiretrack or not? If not, then what species might this eel be?

Looks more like a peacock eel.

That's that I was thinking too. I wanted to get the opinion of some of you guys on here. As there are so many of you on here who know volumes more than I do about aquarium pets.

Since moving to Michigan 4 years ago, I've learned more in that time about fish and aquariums than I have in all of my 31 years. I had never kept Cichlids before, much less knew what the difference was. Now, I've kept more different fish than I ever dreamed of having, and I've happily settled into two albino P. Senegalus, and my wife grabbed up that Eel to finish off her tank for now.

Do the spiny eels go after snails?

Thanks for all the info so far, folks!

It is a peacock. I have only seen them eat very small pond snails.
