Those two i've had, and I "believe" they are Floridas... Now I just got this one today and he looks a liiiittle different, so i'm wondering if he could possibly be a spotted gar? He is a little darker.. Also, on a side note, my LFS had 2 other gars and they looked the exact same as the one i'm about to post, but they were muuuuch darker.. like one was damn near all black.. Does that mean anything? Diseases?

Questionsssssssssssssssss....
About how much do you think these guys should eat? Like how often, and what? I currently have them on the medium sized comets from the LFS.. how many of those do you think they should eat, on average? and how often should I give them to them?

Those are all Florida gars.

At that size, you can begin to train them to take pellets and/or frozen foods. Start by getting them on freeze-dried and/or whole krill (make sure it floats), and then move on to giving them pellets once they're consistently feeding on the krill. As for their current diet, switch them to rosy reds and/or feeder minnows and have those available to them at all times. Once they're on pellets, you can decrease the feeding frequency to once a day then eventually take it down to every other day (or even less than that) once they get a bit bigger.

I diagnose all those as Florida gars. The only way to know if they could be spotteds is if you know if they are wild caught and from where. The darkness could mean a few things...could just be natural as florida/spotted gars have highly variable patterns. The gars could be blind which coould cause a camouflage issue, making them very dark in color, or they could be spawning which seems to make female gars really dark, but probably not at that size.. My two aate several hundred goldfish a week at that size...until i switched them to market prawns stuffed with pellets.

also one of your gars has a pretty jacked up nose...glass injury?

Yes /: First day I had em /: It's all good now though! It was pretty roughed up and red, but all is well now.. and I currently have frozen krill, that I let thaw in a bowl of tank water, and it sinks... should I buy the krill that isn't frozen? Like in a little container.. not sure what it's called.. and any specific pellets? liiike shrimp pellets?

Also, thank you all for answering my questions!

Get the freeze-dried whole krill; it comes in a little plastic container, and it floats. Get them to accept that when it's offered and go from there.

Get the gars in a smaller aquarium until they put on some more size. Little gars do not belong in a big aquarium because you end up with injured or dead gars; use the step-up method, and you'll have way better results.

Also, you're going to have issues with your current stock; none of those fishes are recommended tankmates for various reasons.

Yeah I know.. but I really do not see any fighting so far.. they're all about the same size..no one is territorial and they all seem to get along well

Also, next smaller aquarium (that I have) is a 20 /:

Also, how often would you recommend using feeders? And how many of them?

avoid feeders if possible.
