I picked this one up yesterday at a nice LFS in the assorted AC tank. Just wanted to confirm it was a Rusty, I've never had one before. If it is, can anyone tell if it's m or f?

Thanks!

Might need a clearer picture of the colors. The shot you posted looks almost as if its a metraclima greshakei.

It's tough to get a clear shot of it, I'm familiar with the coloration of the greshakei & I'm like 99% sure it's not. I actually was looking to get greshakei's but they didn't have any. Unless they start out as a brown/purple with orange-tinged fins. That would be cool but I haven't heard that.

When stressed a greshakei can turn darker blue/brown. I had a submale stay brownish blue with red fins. That fish in the picture really looks like a M. greshakei. Rusties are pretty much orange all over with a little purple on the sides though the ones I find at the LFS are almost always muddy orange/brown.

Hmmm, actually maybe it is a female greshakei, I found a pic that looks very similar to mine. Bummer I really wanted a Rusty, maybe I can do a swap. Thanks for the help!

The reddish tint that the dorsal fin has really leads me to to think greshakei. I'd advise you to keep him or her AND get a rusty. My female has grown into a beautiful iridescent purple fish with nice red fins.
