ID: Serrasalmus spilopluera?

I just picked this guy up today, got him a red belly but i think he is a Gold Piranha Serrasalmus spilopluera. what do u guys think?

it's definetly a gold spilo/ mac... good pick up
 
nice find! i think it's a gold spilo as well.
 
How big is he? He's definately not a RBP.

Here is an RBP about the size I'm guessing your spilo to be.

^Notice that even at his small size (this was shortly after purchse August) the anal fin is bright red, his tail has more black on it, and he has dark spots on the upper part of his side.

Here's a more recent picture, which should show the spot with some clarity.

I am 100%sure that its not a red belly, The lady at the store was like "Are you sure u want that one, it dosen't have much red"

What part of Mich are you from? Our store down here only carries RBPs. If you see another one, I might have to make a road trip and get an "ugly" gold "RBP" lol ;)

BTW, how much did you pay for him?

i dont think the "ugly gold RBP" would get along w/ your RBP very well. serras don't play well w/ others.
 
I would have a seperate tank, demjor!! lol

I know better than to mix species, and 2 p's is a bad idea anywho!!
