This probably should go under the illness section but seeing as its a cat i was hoping to get some better responses. I have an ID shark that has what looks like a wart on his upper jaw. it hasnt seemed to change size/shape to much but it does turn red sometimes (like its inflammed). He was in a tank that was to small for him at the previous owners, so i was thinking its from rubbing/ hitting the tank at the previous owners but im not really sure. ideas?

yeah, ID sharks tend to be very skittish and very active, often bumping and smashing their mouth onto the glass. my old ID had the same situation, it's an eyesore but it doesn't seem to affect them at all. it looks like some sort of tumor of something. i had my ID for a good 12 years before i released it into my friends earthen pond.

I bet this is what happened to OP's I.D. mine does this way to much lol.

That is a very common problem that people have been posting in here lately. Try a search for ID shark help or something similar. I'm sure you will find a lot of threads on it. :) I agree that it is an issue that they get from rubbing the glass too much unless there are other factors. Could be a tumor, or some other type of growth caused by parasites, bacteria, ect. A pic would be nice.

It may or may not be it... but smashing into the tank walls and decor and substrate enough times gives rise to an almost permanent wound. Once in a proper tank and under proper care and the wound is treated correctly, it should heal and never be read/inflamed but the bump will likely stay as a bone/cartilage growth on the upper jaw bone. It also may be a discolored skin on the bump that will never be black/dark but will remain pink, like an amelanistic spot.
