I have had an Id shark for coming up on about 8 months. Bought him at 2 inches and has gotten up to 8 inches. Not ridiculously slow growth rate, but compared to other cats like my tsn who I have had for roughly the same amount of time and is now pushing 18 inches. Both in large tanks, serious filtration, regular wc's, great parameters.

I only ask because I have seen some people say they grow very fast while others say they grow slowly. Just trying to see , he seems to be very healthy and is always active. Just confused by the research I had done in the past and finally decided to flat out ask lol.

I should add this is just for curiosity sake. I believe my id shark to be healthy and happy but just want to get a definite answer on the growth rate

It's really a matter of opinion. Some people think 1" per month is fast and some don't. Some people say oscars grow fast, but oscars only grow between 0.5-1" a month depending on your water changes and feeding. All that matters is your fish is healthy and happy.

what size tank has the id shark been in? They are the one fish in the world that I know of that truly displays what stunting is all about. They are fast growers normally and used in asia on farms for food because they grow so fast. They are major swimmers and swim constantly so they need a lot of space, even when small. Most times in aquariums about 100 or even 150 gallons, they only reach 12 inches, live for a couple years, and die. They are supposed to live over 20 years and grow to the size of 4 feet. I had one for about 3 years in a 125 and was planning on moving him to my 300 when he grew too big for my 125. Thing is though, he stopped at 12 inches, never grew again after a year and a half. he ended up dying and I never moved him, felt so bad about it. Thats the reason I am curious about the tank size.

He is in a 100 gallon with plans to move him to my 330 when he grows a little more then eventually into a pond with my tsn, but I want him to be of good size before putting him in the 330 with the big boys. Right now he would be harassed a little too much for me to be okay with it.
