I think they're payara (sabre tooth tetra) but I'm far from a characin pro so forgive me if I'm wrong.

I was thinking payara too :nilly:

Mine don't have the black spot and the mouths are a little different. The juvenile is certainly not a payara.

Are these from sharkaquarium? If so, you can trust labeled IDs.

The top one is probably of the Cynopotamus sp. The second one looks like a brycon variant.

Thing is I never saw names...just the pics..

angeladay, you seem to know your characins!

What could you tell me about these guys?
(Im also off to google with the names BTW!)

the top one is vampire tetra, i was in SA over the weekend seen 3 of em in a tank and was checkin em out.

Whoops sorry cant say it def. is, im no expert, but come to think of it the tank i was looking in wand seen the payara label only had 3 of them in it, so possibly was different tank. i know their is also a few diff kind of payara, do a search on here, ive read some cool threads on them.

I know the top one is not a payara. There are scombs, tats, and armatus and this is neither one of them.

The second one I believe is Oligosarcus jenynsii. Very cool fish with the face of an ATF and the body of a dorado!!

Yea, was definately a differen tank he had the payara in, they were pretty sweet lookin too. Luckily I live maybe 20 mins from shark aquarium, so I can go day dream about buyin all the cool fish they got over their in person lol
