Anyone know what these things are? they run mostly, but I have seen some minor swimming for an inch or two.. I say run because they're quick. the stones they are on is medium sized gravel.
sorry about the pic focus, but they're in and out of focus before I can push a button.
I'm waiting for the bluegill to recognize them as food, but not yet.

that's the tank they're in, I'll be updating it probably this weekend if I get the new driftwood in.
I've seen maybe 5 or 6 of these guys zipping around. sneaky little guys too, they seem to know when the fish are looking and freeze long enough for them to lose interest... if they don't wise up, I may end up with a tankful to send you scatman.

Clam shrimp.
A shrimp-y/amphipod-y crustacean that have a protective clam-shell. Pretty common & cosmopolitan, though only occasionally abundant as everything eats them. Scoop a few out and maintain them in a big mason jar. Feed on bits of carrot and other non-meat filth.
Should pose no danger to the fish and, given enough refugia (gravel and hidy-spots) in the tank should persist at low levels even once they start getting eaten. Great way to keep unrecorded fry alive and growing is to have some in the gravel. Plus good for general cleanup.

Thanks andy. that they're well eaten is good news. I wanted to make sure of that before adding them to my apistos/cory tank. those fry I'll be happy to keep, I don't need anymore bluegill.
they're in the daphnia cultures I've started as well as in the 90G tank, so they should be around for a while.

I have one of this in my shrimp tank. but I scoop it out some time back not knowing what it is and what it may do to my shrimps.
