Hello MFK

This sad friend was a trade in at my LFS and stuck in the african cichlid tank, which was unfortunately the best place since it had the hardest water I was told. Anyways, I've held off going out of my way to get some archerfish until I had the ideal set up, but this guy just sort of fell in my lap. Nobody wanted him and he was getting sadder by the day. I THINK I have him ID'd at a microlepis but I keep going back and forth with the chatareus oddly enough. Pictures have not been consistent online, though a few sites were good.

I'd like to get a proper ID so I can make sure I accommodate his needs properly, or find a home that can do so. I also have the dilemma of his health seeming a bit "meh." He ate for me the first day with a nice fat cricket. Then ate bloodworms very nicely. By day 3 I came home with more crickets and he bit down onto the tweezers I had the cricket on which I'm sure didn't feel great. But he chomped two crickets in half but decided not to eat them. I've offered hikari floating and sinking pellets (the pbass he's homed with temporarily eats them) but he won't look at them and is now refusing to eat bloodworms now even soaked in garlic guard. Takes a bite, then spits them out.

We're on day 5 of picking him up from the LFS and normally fish have calmed down by now, he just seems less active. I noticed he's had some white poop hanging from him, but it's really thick and fuzzy. This may be the culprit to what's going on so we're doing a nice cleaning and w/c tonight and adding in some prazipro. I added in some stressguard his first 2 days here which is a standard when I add new fish since it's very mild and non abrasive.

My biggest issue is simply getting a proper ID on him so I can properly care for him, at least until he's back up to health and can go to a good home.

Excuse the poor photo, it was taken his first day here. He rarely opens his dorsal but he has the two spots in them. His belly was black at the LFS, probably due to stress.

obviously the pbass is accustom to being the center of attention. if you look closely you can actually see part of the fuzzy poop still hanging off of the archerfish.

it is most likely stress but white poop is a bit concerning, maybe some internal parasites? either way getting him into is proper water conditions will help. They like hard alkaline water but not brackish. However, they can tolerate light brackish if you feel the need to use a salt treatment on him, they can withstand 30% sea water no problem. Online sources also say they like it warm, 79-82, but I keep mine at 77 and they are just fine.
