I asked the seller what kind of catfish this is and even he doesn't know what it is. His wholesaler called it a meekong torpedo catfish and the seller has never seen this catfish before. So can anyone id this catfish? Only image hes got.

I to asked about this fish. Exotic? He has quality fish. Never had a issue with orders but i wasn't to sure of this fish and he didn't have much info as well

Well found something just as I said all that lol. Think this may be the species..Sperata aor. check it out

I agree. I see the Sperata in it too.

If we saw the adipose with its distinctive spot, it'd be a no-brainer.

Still, Sperata is an Indian fish (also occurring in Nepal and Myanmar) and not in Mekong. I got three from Raymond Chan half a year ago. Hard to tell the species. Most vendors say aor but I think half of them at least are acicularis. I don't think we ever get seenghala at all.

$120 for it is pretty steep for a 4"-5" Sperata. IIRC, I paid Ray a lot less, in the ballpark of $25-$50 for each.

I don't understand how he can exclaim "Super rare!" if he admits he doesn't even know what this fish is that he is selling. It's not a fair / bona fide marketing IMHO. It is entirely common, regrettably, and those who advertise aggressively are often fiscally successful, but it doesn't make it right.

I've just browsed through Steve's exoticfishshop entire freshwater section. A lot of fish are more expensive than I remember them to be even most recently. Maybe I live in the past. I also didn't like that he does not explain at least in several words for example why one TSN is $15 and another is $90 and others are in between. Neither do I get "photos are of the actual fish" when sometimes it looks like they cannot be, like two differently priced Synodontis multipunctatus. I guess these are just typos.

Yet, I must state overall, I like Steve. I bought from him before and was satisfied. He is fair in his customer dealings. I am for buyer beware, buyer must make educated decisions when buying live beings especially.
