ID this characin 7-8"

I bought this characin looking "gar" today from my LFS they sold it to me as a gar and i asked them what kind of 'gar" this was they had no clue so can anyone that has experience or any clue tell me what this is?

It's a boulengerella species. Doesn't look like maculata to me. Hopefully this helps you narow it down.

or commonly named Striped Gar or Striped Pike Characin

does well with other characins, odoe, cudas, atf, etc. fairly easy to get off live. will accept freeze dried shrimp, hikari sticks, and frozen foods.
