I just picked this up for $7. The body is blue with crazy red/pink hues. Thin white line on top fin. Sorry for the horrible pics.

-not! This is one of those new hybrid peacocks-they're mutts deluxe-you'll never know what it is.I can't even figure where they come from, but a fl farm or asia is my guess.

What features do you see that tell you it is the hybrid you speak of and not a german red or ruby red? The only odd features I notice on that fish is how large the eye seems, and the white on the dorsal seems to stop just before the fin flares away from the body? I'm don't doubt that you're right as I'm no expert, I'm just curious on what features you are seeing so I'm able to look for (or avoid) them in the future.

German reds traditionally look like a fish that came from the lake, from what I've seen. This fish has extra elongated fins, and the coloring is unlike any line bred species.notice the red on the top fin almost going to the head(or does it?).All these hybrids have this finnage, but come in many colors.I've seen albino, sunburst type, these blue ones, sometimes w/red streak on the head.my guess is a mix of jacofrierbergi, sunburst, and azureus, blue ahli, and who knows what else? They probably came from fl because they've been here awhile

Ok I see what you're saying. I did notice the red at the front of the dorsal in the white stripe, but I didn't notice where you point out that it seems to continue on down the head.

As I said before, I don't question your (or anyone else's) experience in identifying features. Just when you say that something is what it is or isn't but don't say why you believe what you do, it's awfully hard for a relative newcomer like myself to learn anything from your experience. Thank you for clarifying!

Thanks all. I was suspecting that it is a hybrid as well. The color is quite intense for its size so it might be juiced. But for the price and finnage, I couldn't pass.
