It looks somewhat like a swamp eel...but that's just a guess, +1 on PM'ing Oddball.
 
ok thanks guys i will try that. this is the email my lfs owner replied to mine with...

"The closest name I can come to this eel is Synbranchus Marmoratus. This [synbranchus marmoratus] is a Peruvian eel, but very well could be this one also, but there are some coloration differences. I have caught eels in both places. Both were caught in 100% freshwater. One difference is that your eel can tolerate a little bit of salt but does not need any at all. Yours has been in water with some salt in it but I change it out within a day or two. It is definitely not a freshwater Moray."
