I bought this eel at a LFS, he was labeled as a tiretrack eel, the lady was very certain that it was a tiretrack eel despite the different markings. after some initial research I was also convinced it was a tiretrack eel, Now Im beginning to think its a black spotted eel. can anyone ID this eel for me?

M. Dayii.... Black spotted. 100%... looks just like my larger one. I'm guessing it's about 8" or larger by the markings. The tail gives it away with it's "fin" The top line of spots, and the small "lines" along it's side also give it away. the side lines will slowy vanish and be replaced with good size spots as it gets larger. My bigger one is almost compleatly spotted out while my smaller one looks similar to yours still. You can expect aggression ect to be simialr to a Tiretrack as well as feeding habits. Nice pick-up. Been keeping my eyes open for another since I aquired mine over the spring/summer.

--(Editing my previous post in a new post, since the edit function doesn't seem to be working atm)--Edit: Looking at it more closely, it does have rather peculiar markings for a dayi, though... I'm not sure. :/
