I don't think it's a syns, at least not only that but I could be wrong I'm still fairly new. The striping to me seems very out of place.the dark spots and body shape look on track with my syns but not the striping. Although being stressed could be the reasoning behind that, I think.

The striping almost made me question too, but then I think back to when I first got my syns, they had dark smudges and partial striping similar to this one. Honestly, if I hadn't gotten mine from Dan at Cichlids of the Americas, I would have questioned their purity.

I don't fully remember what mine had looked like, I just remember the LFS selling them as JD's. They were only a few inches and I was totally green so I went with them being the knowers of information. OP I'm glad we could help you identify your fish, keep us updated as the colors come in because they are very gorgeous once comfortable in their surroundings.

as soon as i get the chance, i will throw in some pics

that's not Synspilum for sure. It's a classic kamfa or hybrid whatever you wanna call it

Why do you think it's not a pure synspila? I have seen my syn's exhibit an almost identical pattern, when I first got them for sure, and when ever a male has gotten too aggressive with a female, she'll show a pattern something like the op's pic. Let us not forget, in this pic it's still in a bag & very probably stressed, there's really no way to be sure of it's true coloration etc until the op posts another pic.
