ID this fish...

Was looking for pics of an unrelated fish and this pic popped up. The poster said it was a chinese hi finned shark. Just wondering if that's correct.

Yep hi fin shark this is what they look like when little.

I know what they look like at smaller sizes, I have a few. I just didn't realize they turn that color. Is this typical coloration for hi fins? At what age or size do the develop the red?

that's a very old specimen, as they get old they tend to loose all those colors and bands, also their fin start to thin out and disappear and they would look like a dull common carp. that one on the first pic though is one of a kind like platinum of some sort.

Well, after doing a search, it seems like alot of them have this coloring.

Yeah, most of them turn out like that as they get older. We probably don't see a lot like that though because they normally don't get that big/old in aquaria.

they get pretty big.
