Went to a different LFS than I normally go to yesterday and they had this guy sitting there. It's not a great pic as I only had my cell phone with me at the time but they had him listed as a Albino Melanochromis auratus which is completely wrong. I'm normally pretty good with these but for some reason I can't think of the right name for this guy. He has the barring and some red on the top of the fins with blue around the gills and a light blue streak running down the top portion of his body..

Ok he's going in the tank. Seems like he should do fine as I have enough hiding places and he's only a "mid-level" aggressive Mbuna. Called the place and picking him up later. He's $10. Daves Rare Fish has them at $25/4inches. (where I get most of my stock) so this seems like a deal. I'll place an order for some females through daves and see what happens.

that's a good price for how big he looks. and yeah, hes a red top-blue zebra...if you want a common name.

Just doing some more research on these guys and it seems that they are pretty hard to find.. kinda makes me even more excited I found this guy for this price. Not gonna say one word to the people at the LFS. Don't want them realizing they're charging the wrong price for the wrong fish :D

I've never seen them at petsmarts.. then again.. I don't look at fish in petsmart. Thanks for raining on my parade though.

Really, it doesn't matter to me, he'll be a good mix in my tank that's all I care about.

I am not trying to make you feel bad. It is just people get ripped off when they are told that fish are rare, when in fact they are not. I wanted you to know that it is not a rare fish and not to over pay for any more down the road. And come on every fishohalic looks at this in these places... even if it is petsmart or walmart...gotta at least check in on them.

The males are really nice looking. I use to have a group in my show tank but ended up rehoming them. The females can be pretty drab. If you get better quality females they will be a pink/brown color with the orange top fin.
