This was a fish i use to have. Always wondered what he was. He started out in the middle of the hierarchy and as he got older he turned into a straight up killer and bully. He wouldnt gill flare. He would just swim back n forth cornering a fish with the side of his body. Never seen any other fish do that before.

Male auratus. Pretty aggressive is an understatement.

I'd never own another. He killed my livingstoni at the time so I removed him from that tank n threw him in my convict breeding tank while I tried to get rid thinking my most aggresive cons could tolerate him n the mean time. They beat him up 4 a few days n then he snapped on the 3rd killing all they're fry n he woulda killed the parents too if I hadn't removed him. I never seen such a temper n aggresiveness n such a small fish. Was a psycho

One of the most highly aggressive Mbuna....not for the lighthearted

Would this be considered more aggressive than a bumble bee cichlid ?

Id say so. I have a 6" crabro that is highly aggressive but id say the auratus is a notch above.

I've had 1 in my mix cichlid tank before. He was a mean and was the head haunch until my red empress out grew him and put him in his place. Having a lot of cichlids to disperse the angler helped. He would get in the biggest fights with my only electric yellow with seemingly no winner. After a few other haps grew out he mellowed out for me. Mean guy in a small or underpopulated tank.
