I picked this up last night at work for Musha, I was bored at my day job so I was doing some research and have narrowed it down to three possibilities. It lost it's color when I went to take pictures, usually from where the spots start all the way to the tail the body is black from top to bottom, and the underside of the fish from lips to tail will also turn black.

Here are the three I've narrowed it down to, now I need an accurate ID

(look at the picture labeled "Breeding Dress" to get an idea of what it looks like when colored up")

(This one's body and head shape look dead on, and it has the same color pattern)

So which do you think it is?

Thanks

Of the three, it looks most like tamasopoensis. It is very unlikely that the fish in question is deppi or rio salto, since those species are almost non-existent in the hobby.

However, since you got it mislabeled, it is a probably a normal texas cichlid, cyanoguttatum.

I believe its a Tamasopoensis, and she's a very funny fish. She colored up as soon as she hit the water. Is currently chasing my Salvini!

Cool! Nice looking fish no doubt.

Just looks like a texas to me.

If any store was carrying any of the fish you have listed they'd know what they had and wouldn't mislabel it.

Looks absolutely NOTHING like a texas...

I agree, I've had a few Texas's and their head is shaped differently, this fish has a softer rounder head .

View the first and last pics full size and you'll see what I'm talking about.
