The most commonly sold species is Pangasius hypophthalmus which grows to about 3ft in the wild. I havn't seen any grow to more than 2ft in aquariums.

There's also a common albino variant available. Here's mine at about 20":

With that dorsal fin it does not look like an iridescent shark.

Agree on the ID.

As for the size, on my end I used to think for a long time they never grow beyond 2.5' in captivity as I've had and now have one that are 2.5' and I have never seen posts/photos from hobbyists with confirmed size of over 2' (you are right) but Wednesday13 says BigRich545 has a few of 36"-40" that he sees sometimes at Rich's place.

Ok guys Thankyou so much for the information. I plan to keep one with a arowAna a Pleco, some catfish and kois. Do u think this combination will work

So what's the deal with this fish?...is it an irredescent shark or another species.I was under the impression that irredescents were Pangasius sutchi, unless the name was changed to hypophthalmus?
