Common snapper or a musk turtle? I catch them in my baited shiner hole in Lake Tohopakaliga in Kissimmee FL. I've caught it probably 5 times in the last 6 months always in the same spot. It usually gets caught in my cast net, but I caught it on a hook and a bit of oat ball one time. I see lots of big snappers but I think this is a musk.

Not a snapper. Musk/stinkpot probably although there are a few related musk/mud turtles. I'm not from there so not sure exact species.

common musk turtle. Sternotherus oderatus- the FL localities tend to be darker than the stereotypical one.
