The Crunch
Hi just wondering if someone can positively id this vieja. It says synspilum and that is what i thought, however recently i got told that a pic of a similar vieja at our lfs was definately not a synspilum... A little help?

LFSs are usually off and don't know what they're selling.

I think it's a syn. If not, then it's X with another vieja. need experts.

looked like a synspilum to me?

I wish i knew vieja is such a awesome species. Good luck!

The Vieja in the video i'd say is a Fenestratus, but i've seen the Vieja in Aliaz's display pic and i'd say that it was almost definately a Synspilum...

That is a fenestratum. They are more elongated when young but they get tall as they get older.
I agree too. It's what I was wondering cuz I was looking around at pictures of viejas to figure this one out. So you confirmed it.

Hmmmm... Very puzzling. Perhaps we should all work together to get some visual I.D sticky threads going? I know inbreeding and interspecies breeding is rampant in the trade but there has to be at least a rule of thumb out there for identifying different variants within species? Could be helpful, especially for all the noobies out there who pick up an accidental red devil or something worse from your petsmart stores or our dodgy pet stores?
Anyways thanks for the help guys! Until next time....
