In the water
JD x1
eel x1(forget what kind)
datnoid x1(dont know what kind yet. the cheapest and smallest)
cories x5

Its going to be planted(never done it before what kind of gravel)
driftwood x2
I have 140 gallons of filtration on it

Any other ideas or suggestion would be appreciated

your cories will eventually be nom nom nom'd
can't give proper suggestion on the eel since i don't know what kind it is, but if it's a fire eel it gets too big for the tank

forget the datnoid due to getting too big and you should be ok...assuming the eel is something that will not get huge, and be able to get fed considering the active tankmate(s)

I dont think that would work. JD will get big and will want territory and with two they will probably take over the entire tank. Pictus are also best in groups of 3+.

Could try 1 JD, the eel and 3 pictus along with maybe 5-6 tiger barbs as dithers.

That could work minus the butterfly fish, they are too fragile to be put in with the dempseys. Also you might not want to do 2 dempseys since youll probably deal with a lot of aggression. Another cichlid beside a dempsey would be fine. Provided they didnt get too big.
