Hi
I want to build a 300gal tank this is the Dimensions 200cm(L)x85cm(H)x70cm(W). Do you think it is a good size tank or is it to high?
I am thinking about building it in to a wall unite or just putting it on a stand what do you think will be better, and should I used a sump filter?

Whats up! Im in the process of buliding a 300 myself! I just got the stand done. I dont (think) its to high. you would have to use your own discretion. But alot of people suggest tha a sump would be appropriate for that size a tank! Im looking to build one as well. Good luck!

That is a fairly standard measurement for a 300G tank.

I would definitely vote for using a sump, but there are always alternatives.

What would be the Alternatives? Please I have never built my own tank so I need all the advice I can get
what thickness glass must I use?

Please put up some pics so that I can see how you built yours I am looking for a few good Ideas.

You could use several large canister filters instead of a sump. The advantages are that they are relatively quick and easy to install, and because they are closed they will not offgas injected CO2 (only relevant for a high-tech planted tank). The disadvantages are that they are expensive and not as flexible as a sump.

My biggest tank is about 75 cm deep. It is a little bit of a pain to clean the lowest parts of the glass, but I like the way it looks. You will definitely need some long-handled cleaning tools.

In-wall tanks look great if you have the space!

sounds like a fun build, i know i enjoyed mine, turned out 91.4 cm, i highly recommend investing in a magfloat if you build it deep.

I am pretty new to the monster fish Game and I have never build a tank before so please be patient with me. What is a magfloat and can a person put in those filter that goes inside the tank and sticks onto the glass if you understand what I mean, I don't know what it is called sorry. Is there any other way to keep the tank clean?

Mag Float is a brand name for a type of magnetic aquarium cleaner. It consists of two parts: a scrubbing pad that goes in the tank, and a handle that goes outside. The two are magnetized so that moving the handle on one side of the glass moves the scrubber on the inside. Considering how thick your glass will be, you'll need the most powerful magnet you can find. Typical mag floats won't be able to hold together well through thick glass.

I think you are talking about a power filter or hang-on-back filter (usually abbreviated HOB on this forum) like these: http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_AquariumPage~PageAlias~filters_hagen_aquaclear_power.html

If so, while you certainly can use them, they are not really adequate for a big tank.

You are looking at 1/2" to 3/4" glass. 1/2" would probably work. If you are a worrier, 5/8" or 3/4" would be better.
