idea for better lighting

Hello, I am looking for a better solution for better lighting on my tank.. any suggestions will be helpful. Custom build 8ft x 4ft x 2ft...

Depends if you're looking at planted, no plants etc. LED floodlights are fantastic and affordable if you just want viewing lights.

No canopy. no plans to have one,,

I am not sure how you want to attach lights then. You usually hang them, use clip on lights, or mount them to a canopy.

Hmm, sounds like you want a light without any fixtures. Then how about a single long piece of LED lighting strip that's waterproof and submersible? They sell it by the roll. The LED strip could be immersed in water just inside the top front rim, facing inward/downward? Perhaps even permanently siliconed into place. Then all you'd see is a single power wire that can be easily hidden by the trim. A wad of silicone over the LED-to-wire connection(s) would render it waterproof too.
