I've had people ask me what are the ideal sharks for Home Aquariums for novice keepers.

Generally I will tell them - the best sharks for novice keepers is one of the following -

- Bamboos - (Brown-banded, Whitespotted, or Grey)
- Epaulette
- Horn
- Coral catshark

But I wonder what your options are. And Why?

Well I started with 2 banded bamboo shark eggs and have had two hatched female's now for about 8 months and have had great success. I did lots of research first so maybe thats why I had such good success with them compared to someone who did two nights reading before jumping into the hobby.

So I would have to say bamboo sharks are pretty easy as long as you take alot of time and do alot of research first. That goes for any marine fish/invert though in my opinion.;)

what reasons are there against other sp. of catshark? just asking....

Well, davo - since you asked.

the first is Availability. the other types of catsharks(a side for the Coral & marbled Catsharks) are rarely available in the North American market.

The second reason is that most of the other species of catsharks - like the swell shark - require cold water - usually below 65F.
