ideal ph for an oscar??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The area they come from normally has slightly acidic waters, but oscars are very hardy. Tank-bred oscars are going to be happy in pretty much any normal tap water pH

agreed. oscars are highly adaptable to all but the most alkaline or acidic waters. its more important to keep your O at a steady PH rather than trying to mess with it to a target level by chemicals or any other means.

but yes agreed that they are verry adaptable and can handle mostly any ph range as long as it reamans steady. ( I dont think oscars really care as long as they get to eat :D )

so to boil it down to you having the happiest, healthiest oscar....

1-change water once weekly, dechlorinate if needed
2-feed lots of varied, good quality food.

dont get much easier than that :D

keep all my oscars between 7.0 and 8.0 depending on the setup and your tap water normally whatever comes out the tap is fine as long as it is stable, just fill up a bucket and let it sit over night then test it this would be your tap ph once it is stable.
